Several years ago, on a rainy, fall night while driving home from work with my mom, we came across an elderly man standing at an intersection.
Observing this man just standing in the downpour and walking in place, it became immediately evident that something was wrong. We pulled over and coaxed the man over toward our car. When we tried to get his name and address or a direction from which he came so that we could help him home, he had no idea.
It was obvious this gentleman was suffering from some sort of cognitive disorder. Left with no means to identify or assist this man, we called the police.
Ultimately, we heard a young man, the grandson, yelling his grandfather’s name from a few blocks away as we waited with the man for the police.
This event spawned the idea of how great it would be to be able to identify someone in these types of situations. Fast forward, technology advances, I.C.E. is your solution !

Introduction
QR Codes are everywhere. You see them on billboards, posters, business cards, websites and even clothing. But do you know how to use them? With the right tools and knowledge you can use QR Codes to save time, learn more about your surroundings and even communicate with others.
What is a QR Code?
A QR Code is a way to encode data into a graphical format that can be read by smartphones. Because it's small, you can use QR Codes on almost any type of medium—from business cards and posters to stickers and clothing.
It's easy! All you have to do is install the app on your smartphone (if you don't already have one), point your phone at the code, and it will automatically scan it. Your screen will show what URL or text has been encoded in the code.

How do you scan a QR code?
Scanning a QR code isn't as simple as scanning a barcode. You can do it with an app, or you can open up your phone's camera and point it at the QR code. If you're on a tablet instead of a phone, you'll have to open your web browser—you won't be able to scan from there.
So how do you actually get your phone ready? First off, if you're using an iPhone or Android device, download one of many free scanner apps from the Google Play Store or the App Store, if your camera does not QR Code scanner built in. Scanning apps will allow you to take pictures of any codes that appear in front of your lens—they're easy to use and very convenient for quickly scanning codes when needed (for instance: if someone hands you their business card).
What kinds of information can I put in a QR Code?
QR Codes can be used for a variety of applications. They have been used to share contact information, provide instructions , and link to online resources. You can even use them to store a URL and then share the code with others so they can visit your website.
There are no limits on what you can put in a QR Code; however, they do need to remain small enough that they don’t look messy when printed out on paper or other materials.
Notify emergency contacts.
You can use the QR code to store contact information, like phone numbers, email addresses. Because this is so easy to update your information to make sure it is most up-to-date. If anything were ever to happen, it would be crucial for others to be able to reach you or a loved one immediately. If someone cannot reach a loved one who relies on their phone for communication (for example), they may not know where they are or what has happened (or even if they're safe). By putting these emergency contacts in the QR code and using geolocation—the ability of phones with GPS capabilities like smartphones or tablets—you can quickly notify family members when there may be an emergency situation that requires medical attention or police involvement. Finally, storing important health info such as medications taken daily along with allergies will ensure those you care about are prepared no matter what happens.*

Embed contact information in your luggage tag
The last thing you want is for your luggage to get lost.
The best way to prevent this from happening is by putting contact information on your luggage tag or sticker. Now you can keep that information out of plain view with using QR Codes. This means that when someone finds it they have to scan the QR code with their smartphone and find out who owns the bag and how they can reach them. When the QR Code get scanned you can be notified it has been found.
Find the location of your lost pet.
If you're interested in finding out where your lost pet is, there's no need to wait for a microchip. A microchip is great and is up to you to get one on your pet but it requires a special device to scan it, and does not have geolocation capabilities.
QR codes can be placed on any item that might be lost, such as a collar or tag. When scanned by anyone with a smartphone and the right app, they display information about its owner. For example: "This cat belongs to Mrs. Smith,", "This dog is vaccinated against rabies.", or "Dog does not get along with other large dogs".
The geolocation feature of QR codes means that you be notified via text message with the location and know your animal is safe.
